Schedule: 5/4/9 schedule = For each two week pay period: Work eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day. Lieu Days = 2 days off one week, and 3 days off the other week.

Overview: This position requires front desk customer service at park Visitor Centers. The intern will provide information to visitors to ensure an enjoyable and safe trip. The intern will provide fee collection, operate AV equipment and open and close the building. Intern will develop and provide interpretive, educational and school programs on park natural and cultural resources and produce Park communications through written and verbal means, social media and press releases. The position will assist with special projects as they arise. Position requires working both inside and outdoors.

Position Responsibilities:

PARK HOUSING IS PROVIDED Under direct/indirect supervision of an interpretive park ranger, the intern will work with interpretation and operate the visitor center front desk including the federal register and WNPA bookstore register, answer visitor questions and answer park email and mail. The intern will also help with or provide special programs, cave tours and school programs. Provide accurate information about the park and surrounding area. Encourage compliance with park regulations through understanding. Learn and consistently follow all safety practices applicable to job and surroundings in which work is performed. When appropriate, submits constructive suggestions to reduce or eliminate safety hazards to employees and visitors. Review and sign all JHAs applicable to their work. Provide quality interpretation and education programs. Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Be able to open, close, and operate the WNPA book store cash register, and also the Government Fees cash register according to instructions. The applicant must pass a background check for the fees aspect of this position. Be able to describe cave formations, cave processes, and general geology of the area. Understand the National Park Service Mission (Organic Act) and know the basic history of the NPS. Understand the Great Basin National Park mission, along with the basic history of Great Basin National Park. Understand basic management policies of Great Basin National Park and the National Park Service The intern will contribute to the effective operations of Great Basin National Park’s interpretive program. The intern’s work will enhance the quality of the visitor experience and may influence the park visitor’s opinion, attitude, learning and enjoyment of the park.
